I’m a qualified UK primary school teacher (BA Hons, PGCE, QTS) with over 20 years of classroom experience, now teaching children online around the world.

I specialise in teaching children to become confident, independent writers through clear structure and engaging texts.

My lessons are carefully structured so every child can succeed and make clear progress.

I live in Yorkshire in the north of England, where I enjoy walking my dog Frank, learning languages and, of course, a good cup of tea and a scone. 

I teach children from around the world, including Germany, Spain, Taiwan and Japan.

How my lessons work

I created Mrs Shipley’s Classroom to help children feel more confident and capable in their writing. My lessons are carefully planned and follow the English National Curriculum used in school across England.

Each lesson includes grammar, spelling and structured writing practice.

My teaching includes:

  • Clear modelling of high-quality writing
  • Step-by-step writing support
  • Linking reading and writing
  • Regular assessment and feedback to help children improve

Children leave lessons feeling proud, capable and confident in their writing. I begin with a short writing task to understand your child’s strengths and plan lessons that match their needs and support clear progress.

Flexible Lessons

Flexible booking to suit your schedule and planned to build skills over time.  All lessons on take place live on Google Meet.

One-to-One Lessons

Individual lessons tailored to your child with a focus on reading, writing and grammar.  All lessons are structured, calm and supportive.

Curriculum-Based

Lessons are aligned with the English National Curriculum and include writing across different genres including stories, descriptions, reports and more.

My Teaching Story

I’ve always loved stories, books and languages – which naturally led me into teaching. After studying German at university, I worked in marketing for publishing and telecoms companies in London and Manchester.

After having my daughter, I decided to train as a teacher. I completed my PGCE and spent the next 20 years teaching in English primary schools teaching across the primary curriculum including English, Maths, Science, History, Geography and PE.

I especially loved teaching reading and writing and seeing children grow in confidence.

I began teaching online full-time in 2024 and saw that many children needed clear, structured support with writing, especially those learning English as an additional language.

This inspired me to create Mrs Shipley’s Classroom. I bring together everything I’ve learned about good teaching:
